Römerstraßen Infozentrum Nettersheim

The Roman Roads Information Centre in Nettersheim is located in the Eifel Nature Centre, a supra-regional visitor centre with exhibitions on nature and history, tourist information and a museum shop. It is open 7 days a week.

Was travelling in Roman times actually comfortable? You can explore this question outside at the replica of a Roman travelling carriage.

On the ground floor, an introductory module with a touchscreen and large map provides comprehensive information about the Roman roads in the Rhineland and mobility in Roman times. There are also suggestions for exciting excursions: all the monuments along the Via Agrippa and the Via Belgica that are worth visiting are briefly presented. There is an interactive guessing game for children.

The museum shop is a wonderful place to browse: replicas of Roman and Frankish finds, a rich selection of literature, maps and typical regional souvenirs.

The archaeological exhibition on the upper floor has been given a new central theme by the Roman Road Information Centre: the Eifel as an economic region. Why was the northern Eifel so important to the Romans? Not far from the provincial capital of Cologne, there were raw materials here: ore for metal production, natural stone for construction, wood for trade and industry. As in the entire archaeological exhibition, interactive stations invite visitors to play and learn more. And brand new: for the first time, finds from the Roman settlement discovered in 2009 are being presented.

Parts of the Roman settlement and the Roman road are literally at visitors' feet, very close to the Eifel Nature Centre: without paying any admission fee, you can explore Roman history on a four-kilometre circular hiking trail between the Roman settlement and today's Nettersheim – on your own during a family outing or with an expert guide. Viewpoints and rest stops offer fascinating perspectives on the former settlement.
